It was noon on Saturday at the Snake River State Park, and the sun was baking my shoulders as the mosquitos were biting my face. I wandered deeper into the woods down a single track dirt trail. I had my camera around my shoulders and the hood on my jacket over my head to help protect myself from the onslaught of hundreds of mosquitos. As I started to get comfortable with my location I started to hear the sounds of 2 and 4 stroke engines rumbling off in the distance. I quickly forgot about the mosquitos and got my camera ready. I would only have one chance.

Sprint to the Finish (pun I will)
As I have mentioned before I am an Iowa boy born and raised. One great benefit of being from Iowa is my proximity to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and it’s home in Knoxville, Ia. As a youngster I can still remember the adrenaline coursing through body as we approached the track. Read more
Meet the Drivers Night at Granite City Speedway
The races were amazing! Some of the best racing I have seen in a long time. I was excited to get home and revisit the photos until I got home and was smacked with a hardcore fever. I decided to pack in early and hit the sack. As I lay in bed with a multitude of discomforts, the worst thing that hit me was the fact that I couldn’t sleep. My brain was on hyper drive. I call it “fever brain”. Read more
Shooting Baseball with the St Cloud Rox
The night was absolutely beautiful. It rained all day and then gave way to this beautiful sunset for the St Cloud Rox game Saturday night. Although the Rox lost 8-5, the game was a blast to photograph. The Rox looked strong most of the game but were out rallied in the end. I am still new to this town but I will enjoy watching the Rox for many years to come! On a side note, one of my favorite things to do was watch the young kids chase after the foul balls. It is an absolute free for all. Can’t help but love the passion young people have.
At the end of the day the Eau Claire Express celebrated their victory under the colorful night sky in St. Cloud.
Street Stock Special Granite City Speedway
I have only photographed these drivers two weekends and one thing is clear. Landon Atkinson will be a hard name to forget. He won his first feature victory during my first race as a photographer, and he one the second as well. Congrats to you Landon. The night was beautiful and the cars put on a show as usual.
The drivers really put it down tonight. I would contend that this is the perfect way to spend a Sunday evening, mosquitos be damned. The night was great and the cars were fast. Congrats to Landon Atkinson, Dan Gullikson, Ryan Johnson, Tim Johnson, Kyle Thell, Jake Hagemann, Tim Lavoi, and Darin Lenk for their wins tonight. I can see that remembering all these drivers names won’t be too hard. Can’t wait till next weekend. And with that, I will leave you with some more interesting shots from the night.
See you all next Sunday!
