It has been a long winter. I have been sitting around in my long johns waiting for the race season to begin, and finally it has arrived. Granite City Speedway was alive again! This is my first year as the official track photographer, which means I actually have responsibility. I will do everything possible to bring you all great photos week after week.
It was noon on Saturday at the Snake River State Park, and the sun was baking my shoulders as the mosquitos were biting my face. I wandered deeper into the woods down a single track dirt trail. I had my camera around my shoulders and the hood on my jacket over my head to help protect myself from the onslaught of hundreds of mosquitos. As I started to get comfortable with my location I started to hear the sounds of 2 and 4 stroke engines rumbling off in the distance. I quickly forgot about the mosquitos and got my camera ready. I would only have one chance.
Tonight was my first experience photographing BMX riders in action! These guys and gals really put it down. It was just a practice session for them but they went at it anyways and it looks like they had a ton of fun out there. I must say I am a bit jealous I never had a track to ride like this when I was growing up.
It is amazing how competitive they are from the top all the way to the new riders just getting used to the track. I want to wish good luck to everyone out there. Ride Strong!
Thanks to Pineview Park Bmx for allowing me the opportunity to shoot and to the riders for making the sport as cool as it is.
